Job description

The New York Foundling (the “Foundling”) is one of the oldest, largest and most well-respected human services agencies in New York. The Foundling is dedicated to creating a community where each child, youth and adult enjoys the safe, stable and support relationships needed to reach his or her full physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual potential. NYF focuses its efforts on child welfare, and the developmentally disabled. We have over 1300 employees located in every borough of New York City, Westchester and Rockland Counties and in Puerto Rico.

The Foundling is opening a temporary emergency shelter for unaccompanied alien children (UAC) in custody of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement. The Foundling will provide 29 shelter beds for male children between the ages of 12-17, in two cohorts according to age, at a location in Manhattan. We are still looking for qualified Teachers to join the UAC program and encourage all interested candidates to apply immediately. All candidates must be bilingual (English-Spanish).

Responsibilities and Requirements of Teachers:

  • Provide direct education instructions to one cohort of youth.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the culture of each youth.
  • Focus educational interventions on the initial outcomes of educational assessment conducted when each youth is admitted to the program.
  • All Teachers must be bilingual (English-Spanish).
  • Must have Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid NYS teaching certificate required.
