Science Teacher Position

The position of a Science Specialist involves helping students learn about biology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, marine science and other investigatory courses through hands-on activities, lab experiments, internet research, field trips, as well as use of mixed media materials and other resources.
Education/Experience Requirements: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field of science and a teaching certification.

Required Skills: Excellent teaching skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and advanced knowledge of various teaching materials and best practices. A Science Specialist should also be patient, detail-oriented and think outside the box.

Specific Expectations: setting up and supervising laboratory experiments for grades K through 8; assisting classroom teachers with student preparation for NYS Science Exam performance testing for 4th and 8th grades; coordinating field trips

  • Coordinate curriculum based labs with science lesson instructors for each grade level, K through grade 8
  • Plan hands-on experiments and investigations and provide students with opportunities to learn science concepts through multimedia materials, field trips, and non-conventional teaching approaches
  • Implement appropriate science class curriculum and foster a learning environment which encourages active student participation
  • Provide instruction and guidance to help students explore and understand important concepts in science; present science demonstrations
