Reading and Writing Teachers Needed

| November 12, 2014
English Hound, a NY based online educational company, is looking for teachers to teach reading and writing to students ages 6 – 13 starting February/March 2015. Classes will be conducted by utilizing Skype teleconferencing feature and Google Docs, which means that teachers can teach from their homes or anywhere high speed internet is available. Each class will have about 1 – 3 students and will be about 40 – 55 minutes long. There is a reading and writing curriculum but teachers may modify it to tailor the needs of individual students. Most of the classes will be conducted either in the morning between the hours of 6 am – 11 am (EST) or in the late afternoon/evenings 4 pm – 9 pm (EST). Hours of work are flexible and teachers may specify the time he/she can be available to teach so long as it is the same day/time of the week. Teachers will be paid $30 – $50/class depending on the class and the number of students in the class.

Teachers will be hired as independent contractors, not as employees. We ask that teachers commit to at least 1 year of teaching. We plan to offer 4 sessions: Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall. Each session will be 10 weeks long consisting of 8 weeks of classes (with classes conducted 2x a week for a total of 16 classes) and 2 weeks allotted for makeup if needed. Teachers will have off on major holidays and we will honor vacation plans or a leave of absence so long as prior notice is given. We only ask that teachers make their best efforts to be reliable during a session and finish each session so that students aren’t left without a teacher mid-session.

  1. A teaching degree (or in the process of obtaining a degree or a certificate) and experience teaching English in K – 8th grade.
  2. A high speed internet access in a quiet room with no disruption during class hours.

We will be hiring on a rolling basis. Our first session will start in February or March. We will provide basic training on using Skype and online reading curriculum. To see our website, go to You can email your resume to Thank you.
