Governors Committee on Scholastic Achievement Mentoring Program
Coordinator Position

Established more than 20 years ago, and in partnership with some of the largest and leading companies in the metropolitan area, the GCSA mentoring program’s mission is to empower youth with a unique opportunity to experience first-hand the “world of work,” develop relationships with mentors who can serve as role models and provide innovative guidance to students as they develop their goals and focus on their post-secondary future.

High school students meet with their mentors twice a month, at the mentors work place, to discuss their academic, professional, and personal growth. In addition to the mentor relationships, the GCSA Mentoring Program supports student development by providing a comprehensive academic year of on-going, after-school activities, academic support through professionally-staffed, regularly scheduled programming, academic enrichment, college guidance counseling, test preparation and events. GCSA is committed to serving historically underperforming districts and communities by effectively building relationships between schools, corporate partners, and mentors that help develop students into dynamic young leaders and future entrepreneurs.

GCSA is seeking several coordinators to assist in the following:

• Facilitating after school programming at 2 of our 6 partner schools, geared towards college and career readiness, academic enrichment and remediation, and supporting the mentor relationships. (note: students visit their mentors at the work locations twice a month. This after-school programming will occur once a week during mentor weeks, and twice a week during non-mentor weeks. In a normal month, this would mean 6 session, most likely from 3:30-5:00 with the students).

• Internalizing and providing feedback on the after-school lesson plans and curriculum; preparing to facilitate at your school sites.

• Working with school coordinator and GCSA Education Director to evaluate program’s effectiveness and plan for students’ individual needs.

• Potentially working on lesson plan writing, as needed. Potentially joining the students at the corporate site during mentoring, as needed.

We anticipate that this position will require approximately 6-8 hours a week, including the afterschool programming 2 days a week (3:00-5:30 pm). Our ideal candidate has experience teaching at the high school level.

If interested, please email GCSA Education Director, Melissa Morrison, at with your resume and brief statement of why you are interested in the coordinator position.
