Mandarin Teacher Needed

| May 6, 2014

The North Shore School District, located in Nassau county of Long Island, New York, is a dynamic educational community made up of five public schools which serve a rich mix of students whose academic performance is consistently high and enables us to maintain a position as one of the strongest public school systems in the Nation. Our district includes Glen Head Elementary School, Glenwood Landing Elementary School, Sea Cliff Elementary School, North Shore Middle School and North Shore High School.

We started our FLES Mandarin program in 2012, which is offered to all students in K-2 in our district. In 2013, we expanded FLES to K-5. K-2 students will be offered Mandarin as foreign language. They will select between Mandarin and Spanish as their foreign language from 3rd grade to 6thgrade. From 8th grade to 12th grade, more languages, including Mandarin, are offered to choose from.

We are hiring a teacher to teach two classes of beginning level Mandarin for 6th grade. Classes are offered alternate days. These students have taken Mandarin as FLES in their 5th grade. They have learned some basic vocabulary, sentences and Pinyin.

This is a 0.2 FTE position.

As you can see, this position has the potential to quickly grown to a full time position, if not the following year.

We are interested in sharing a Mandarin teacher with Glen Cove District, if this is something you will consider. Glen Cove District is within 10 minutes driving from our district, and they are looking for a 0.4 position to teach Honor and AP level for the year of 2014-2015.

If interested, please apply ASAP at
