Instructional Specialist: Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development

Under the supervision of the Director, Bilingual Education and Dual Language Instruction or the Director of ELL Instruction in the Office of English Language Learners (OELL) the English Language Learner Instructional Specialist is part of a team of experts focused on supporting the quality of instruction and programming offered to all ELLs in New York City public schools.

The ELL Instructional Specialist serves as a key support to school leaders and teachers to ensure that highly effective instructional strategies are utilized to support the teaching of ELLs.  The ELL Instructional Specialist will participate in the design and delivery of dual language, bilingual programs, or ESL programs, and provide related curriculum and instructional support of appropriate programs for all English Language Learners. They manage the creation of curriculum scaffolds and supports for ELLs in bilingual, dual language and ESL settings, professional development resources, modules, and videos that will be shared with school leaders, and teachers working in dual language and bilingual programs.

Applicants must possess a valid New York State certificate in School Administration/Supervision (SAS), School District Administrator (SDA) or in School Building Leadership (SBL) as well as a Certificate of Eligibility for Supervisory Placement or a valid New York City license in the specific area for which they are applying.
