French Dual Language Teacher Position

PS 133 is  looking for a Teacher for the French Dual Language Program (September 2014)

Requirements (due to the high volume of  submissions, we will not consider applications that don’t fit the requirements below)

  • New York State Certification in Childhood Education Grades K-6 with a Bilingual French Extension (1-6)

or at minimum

  • New York State Certification with French fluency. (NYSED requires 12 credits in coursework and an additional exam for bilingual extensions). All candidates must have a base certification and  their language ability have been assessed both orally and written in both English and French.
  • Commitment to, or showing proof of registering to take the Bilingual Education Assessment exam, or having passed it via
  • Commitment to enroll in and successfully taking the necessary 12 credit coursework in bilingual education and applying for the bilingual  education extension with
  • Minimum of two (2) years of satisfactory service as a teacher in the New York City Public Schools.
  • American citizenship (or permanent residency).
  • Oral and written fluency in French and English.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated written and oral fluency in French and English.
  • Demonstrated success in incorporating hands-on and cooperative learning activities
  • Knowledge and application of best practices in instructional strategies and techniques
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with colleagues and parents/caregivers

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily instruction in French and English across all content areas aligned to the New York State Learning Standards and Common Core Learning Standards
  • Engage students in meaningful inquiry-based lessons and activities
  • Assess students’ ongoing performance and provide intervention as needed
  • Confer and report performance of students to their families and administration
  • Participate in ongoing Professional Development
  • Maintain student progress reports

Hours: 8:20am-3:10pm

Salary: As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
