City College Teaching Fellows Field Consultants

The School of Education of the City College of New York is seeking individuals to serve as Field Consultants for its revised Teaching Fellows program, which is projected to accept 100 new students in May 2014 in bilingual, special, and bilingual special education. Field Consultants provide mentoring to Teaching Fellows in their school sites and work with them to support and improve their professional practice. Field consultants work closely with the Program Coordinator to provide timely and relevant feedback to Fellows, the faculty responsible for the coursework in which Fellows are enrolled and the NYC Department of Education Teaching Fellows Office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and supporting Fellows on site through observations and conferences per the schedule developed by the Program Coordinator and the Department of Education;
  • Communicating regularly with Teaching Fellows about relevant information and expectations with respect to their field placement;
  • Using technology to document and assess Fellows program, including but not limited to reports of observations, relevant assessments, and artifacts submitted through TaskStream, the electronic portfolio system used by the School of Education;
  • Working with the field placement sites to ensure appropriate teaching assignments and develop support strategies for Fellows;
  • Collaborative planning with selected CCNY program faculty and the Program Coordinator to track effectiveness, monitor Fellows’ progress, and devise appropriate improvement strategies for Fellows as needed;
  • Participating in professional development required by the NYC Department of Education and/or City College;
  • Problem solving in collaboration with the Associate Dean and other CCNY personnel to support Fellows at all stages of their program.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience as a teacher, mentor or coach in a field setting and recent experience with the NYC public schools. Preference will be given to Consultants who can commit to supporting at least five CCNY Teaching Fellows. Professional experience in bilingual and/or special education is preferred.
