BC/CU Math Mentors

| September 4, 2018
Math Mentors pairs undergraduate and graduate students from the Columbia community with 6th graders at MS 324 in Washington Heights for math tutoring. Our goal is to give these students the confidence they need to shine in 7th grade math! The program happens roughly 1 Saturday morning (10am-1pm, including travel time) a month in the fall semester at 2 Saturday mornings a month during the spring. Breakfast and transportation to and from the Columbia campus included. The students at MS324 love getting to know their tutors and are always excited to spend their Saturday morning with us. (There are answer packets and other materials provided, just in case you’ve forgotten the trapezoidal area formula!). We do provide sign-offs on community service hours or professional development/teaching hours, but it is the responsibility of the member to ensure this work meets the requirements of their program.
MS 324
This year, we are looking to have a group of tutors that more accurately reflects the demographics of our students, so we especially encourage people of color and men to join us, though all are welcome—including those who are not a part of the Columbia community.
